ChaNa is a brand produced in collaboration by two Puerto Rican tea specialists: Alondra De Brasilia, founder of AlouThé, Tea Sommelier in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean, Matcha green tea specialist and “tea blender”; together with Fernando Castillo, lawyer and specialist in CTC crops and teas, owner of the Ecuadorian Tea Company and Hacienda Sangay in the Amazon, also owner and founder of several tea brands in Latin America.
Fernando, who is a native from Guaynabo Puerto Rico, has a 1,000-hectare farm, which meets the climatic conditions and optimal soil, which give the tea particular characteristics. Hacienda Sangay, at the foot of the Sangay volcano, is a farm that has been developed for more than 50 years. Historically established by various English shareholders.
After a trip to Ecuador at the beginning of 2020, De Brasilia was inspired to create ChaNa. Our teas come from the only tea plantation in the Amazon, a self-sustaining farm with “Rainforest Alliance” certification, which guarantees optimal forest management and conditions for workers.
Our chamomile comes from the Chimborazo Province. Chimborazo is the highest volcano in Ecuador and one of the highest in the region. At the foot of the volcano at about 3,000 meters above sea level, the valleys are super fertile and it is where our chamomile grows and collected by indigenous women. It is grown without chemicals, totally natural and organic. The waters used for irrigation are from the volcano’s melting glacier.
