Golden milk may be the newest trend hitting at your local near coffee shop, but the beverage has been around for millennia and has a long tradition in ancient Ayurveda medicine. The ingredient responsible for golden milk’s bright yellow color is turmeric, an anti-inflammatory spice. In a small saucepan, add 1-2 teaspoons of Golden Milk Mix to 1 cup of milk of choice. Simmer on low heat, stirring occasionally, for 5 minutes minimum. Golden Milk Mix can also be steeped in boiled water (5-7 minutes). Either way, strain the spice blend from the liquid before sipping or serving. The important aspects are that the turmeric is cooked and combined with a small amount of black pepper, as the black pepper increases the absorption of the curcumin. If desired, add sweetener (honey, agave, molasses, maple syrup) for healthful and tasty elixir.
